Japan has an extraordinarily aging society and it is expected that persons aged 65 and over will comprise 25 percent of the population in the early 21st century. Moreover, Japanese society has just begun to take an interest in welfare because the quality of life of people with disabilities has not improved adequately enough. So we desire "Technologies to assist us throughout our lifetime" provide a more comfortable and enjoyable life and a chance to join social activities according to one's ability for all people including both the aged and those with disabilities. In our department of Biocybernetics we do research in mechatronics, bioengineering, medical and assistive technologies with the aim of developing a more intelligent, efficient and user friendly technology. Also educationally, we would like to advance the careers of electronics/information/control engineers with a view toward literacy in welfare. |
